Scholarships & Assistantships

DSI is committed to providing scholarships and assistantships that take into account the merit of each applicant. As part of the application process, all applicants are considered for scholarship and assistantship awards.

Scholarships

Dean’s Merit Scholarship for Excellence in Design

Students who demonstrate personal or professional design excellence will be considered for the Dean’s Merit Scholarship for Excellent in Design. Evidence of contributions to either the field of design or a specific professional industry in design should be indicated in an applicant’s admission materials to be considered for this scholarship.
Eligibility: There are no eligibility restrictions; all applicants from all programs will be considered for this scholarship.

Caribbean Design Ambassadors Scholarship

The Caribbean Design Ambassadors Scholarship supports students with strong ties to the Caribbean who have a demonstrated past or potential for academic or design excellence.
Eligibility: All applicants from all programs will be considered for this scholarship, given that the applicant has either earned an associate’s or bachelor’s degree from a Caribbean higher education institution, is a resident of or has citizenship in the Caribbean, currently has or has had extensive work assignments or experience in the Caribbean.

DESIGN FOR SOCIAL IMPACT SCHOLARSHIP

To recognise students who have given time and service to their community, the Design for Social Impact Scholarship is for students who view design  and can demonstrate how social justice and/or being a global citizen has informed their academic endeavors and design work thus far. Additionally, students awarded this scholarship are expected to pursue a capstone project or dissertation topic within the context of social justice, community service, or responsible global citizenship.
Eligibility: All MDes and DDes applicants will be considered for this scholarship.

Scholarships and Grants from Other Organizations

You may be eligible for a private scholarship or grant from an outside organization or agency. Some sources to explore include employers, unions, professional organizations, and community and special interest groups.

Assistantships

WORK STUDY ASSISTANTSHIP

Work Study Assistantships support the administrative operations of DSI across all functional areas of the institution. Work Study positions may be up to 20 hours per week, depending on the responsibilities of the position. The position receives an hourly stipend for hours worked during the term.
Eligibility: There are no eligibility restrictions; all applicants from all programs will be considered for this assistantship.

RESEARCH ASSISTANT AND TEACHING ASSISTANTSHIP

Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant positions are offered to students with professional research aspirations or professional academic aspirations as responsibilities will primarily consist of supporting and assisting students in their academic endeavors by either serving as a Teaching Assistant in a DSI course or serving as an Research Assistant under the guidance of a faculty member. Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant positions may be up to 20 hours per week, depending on the responsibilities of the position. The position receives an hourly stipend for hours worked during the term.
Eligibility: All MDes and DDes applicants will be considered for this assistantship.
