The course investigates how designers can generate new knowledge and theoretical contributions through design practice. Learners will consider how designers' embodied ways of working, making, and knowing can advance knowledge production within the design disciplines. Through guest lectures and studio visits, learners will unpack the underlying principles and methods involved in conducting practice-based design inquiries. Learners will reflexively examine their own design processes and practices to reframe their design work as knowledge-producing design activity. This course requires attendance at an on-site residency that will leverage the local content to shape course topics.
